Grandfather of scrum, Professor Ikujiro Nonaka said new ideas always come from empathy between two persons and it is very important to create “ba” to generate empathy.

Scrum Inc. Japan decided to hold 1-day discussion style conference “Scrum Interaction 2019” having Father of Scrum, Dr. Jeff Sutherland, Grandparent of Scrum, Prof Nonaka and leaders of scrum practitioners all over the world.

We would love to change Japan more lively and innovative!

Scrum Interaction 2019 is “Ba” where scrum practitioners gather with ideas to improve societies, discuss and create new ideas.

    “Scrum is an Agile method designed to add energy, focus, clarity, and transparency to project planning and implementation. While some say Scrum is not a silver bullet, it can be a heat-seeking missile to outmoded business practices.”
    Jeff is the inventor and co-creator of Scrum. He is a West Point graduate, former fighter pilot, and cancer researcher, as well as, CTO of eleven different software companies. He launched the first Scrum team in 1993 and has shepherded its growth into almost every industry: finance, healthcare, higher education, and telecom. His most recent book is Scrum: The Art of Doing Twice the Work in Half the Time.

    Professor Ikujiro Nonaka Professor Emeritus, Hitotsubashi University

    Ikujiro Nonaka received his BA in political science from Waseda University in1958, and MBAand PhD in Business Administration from the University of California, Berkeley in 1968 and 1972, respectively. Professor Nonaka was appointed a Xerox Distinguished Faculty Scholar of the University of California in 1997, Professor Emeritus of Hitotsubashi University in 2006, and University Professor of Waseda University in 2013.
     
    Professor Nonaka was the Dean of the Graduate School of Knowledge Science, Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, from 1997 to 2000. Previously he was Professor (1982-95) and Director (1995-98) at the Institute of Business Research,Hitotsubashi University. His earlier academic career included positions at Nanzan University and the National Defense Academy’s Faculty of Social Science. He was elected as a member of the Japan Academy in January 2016. Professor Nonaka received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Haas School of Business at the University of California,Berkeley, on November 3, 2017, during the school’s annual gala.

    In the age of digitization, we ought to resurrect our “human” capacities to enable true value creation. We have to be able to see the meaning and values in the numbers and data that we collect, but doing so, as counterintuitive as it may seem, requires us to use the human body and five senses, and empathize with one another. This lecture explains the knowledge creation process, phronetic leadership, and narrative strategy, which all constitute the foundation for human-centric and agile innovation.

    3M’s competitive differentiation is largely based on a unique integration of multiple sciences and technologies to create new platforms for a variety of markets. Think Scotch Tape, Post-It notes, Tegaderm IV tape and sandpaper. However, there has not been a big new 3M platform product for a long time. Perhaps the 3M innovation engine needs to change.
    David and Brian will share the Scrum story from 3M HIS, where the external regulatory deadline, the industry market forces and customer dissatisfaction created the perfect storm. And opportunity. Spoiler alert: this all-in investment was a rousing success. However, one business success in one market was not enough to create a wave of Scrum adoption across the company. But then Dave and Brian had a unique opportunity to build Scrum @3M from the center. This next chapter has twists and turns across the enterprise. Scrum at the center of 3M includes not just software, but hardware and manufacturing. It includes not just development and launch, but research and global teams. It encompasses dozens of operating units, whose interfaces are a mismatch with Scrum. The power of change, happiness, inspiration, angst, zeal, leadership and fun will appear throughout the talk.
